LIFE WITH PIPES: Keeping the Flow Uninterrupted

Published On: November 15, 2018Categories: Plumbing

Water is available to you anytime you turn a handle. Hot, steamy showers. Toilets that flush.

Let’s all take a moment and hail the magnificence of modern-day plumbing! It’s just one of those things that pretty much everyone takes for granted. It is also one of those things we immediately realize we cannot live without once it’s not working properly.

Being proactive about your plumbing maintenance is essential to the success of your business and your home. Plumbing problems should be addressed immediately. Ignoring a plumbing issue should not be an option. Water damage is far costlier than proactively hiring a plumber to fix the problem immediately.

Nearly all common plumbing problems are due to wear-and-tear, which is why functioning plumbing requires regular maintenance. For instance, a leaky faucet or “running” toilet costs you money with every drip. Wasting hundreds of gallons per year, these leaks are typically caused from work out gaskets and O-rings (round rubber washers), flappers for toilets, and other sealing mechanism failure. Water damage is a whole other issue you need to consider—a leaky fixture will not only destroy the area around it, but if left unattended, can cause structural damage as well.

And how about clogged toilets and drains? Yep, that’s a big YUCK! Slow draining is normally the first indication of a problem. Clogged drains can mean overflowing, which ultimately means water damage. Watch for toilets that require constant plunging. Back-ups are not something you ever want to deal with.

How about those silent leaks? Have you ever found one of those? Toilets can leak silent 24/7 and you would never know it. This includes pipes and fixtures. The big surprise usually comes when you open your water bill. Keep an eye on your water bill for unexplained and/or significant increases. Another reason it is wise to get your toilets, pipes and other areas routine checked via a regular maintenance schedule with a plumber you trust!
