First things first.

  1. Turn OFF the Individual shut-off valve.
    Most sinks, toilets, and appliances have one.
    This will stop the individual leak right away and minimize the damage.
  2. OR turn OFF the Main water line valve if there is no individual valve.
    The main valve is usually in the basement.
