Did you know that you can reduce your utility bill by as much as $600 per year if you conduct a simple home energy audit? Here are four easy things you can check to start saving money right now.

Turn down your thermostat when you leave the house

Even turning your thermostat down one degree can make a difference – saving you between one and three percent on your utility bill. If you forget to do this, think about investing in a programmable thermostat.

Look for drafts and fix them

Examine all your doors and windows for drafts. Install weather proofing material and re-caulk areas that need it.

Reverse your ceiling fans

Most ceiling fans come with a switch that allows you to reverse the direction of the blades. In the winter, if you set your blades to clockwise, it will help circulate the warm air that rises back down. You’ll feel warmer and this minor change can cut your heating cost by as much as 10 percent.

Turn down your water heater

Set your water heater to 120 degrees F. Lowering the temperature can reduce your water heating costs by 5-10%.
