One of the best ways to reduce furnace breakdowns and ensure your system is running efficiently is by having an annual tune up performed. Just like your car, the life of your furnace will be extended with regular preventative maintenance. Regular furnace inspections can help identify minor issues before they become big, costly problems.

What does a furnace tune up include?

A furnace tune up by a professional HVAC contractor should include the following items:

Complete inspection

Full visual inspection and check of all the working elements of your furnace and duct system. Your HVAC technician will be looking for any concerns or signs of excessive wear and tear.

Lubrication

To prevent friction between the moving parts of your system, a furnace tune up should include a complete lubrication.
Pilot and gas pressure evaluations – your HVAC technician will make any necessary adjustments to the pilot and gas pressure to make sure these elements are restored to manufacturer specs.

Filter replacement

Most furnace filters should be changed every three months or more. Your technician should change your filter during a furnace tune up.

A written assessment

A full written assessment of the technician’s findings should be included in your turn up. This is important information to help you determine the condition of your furnace and if and when you might need to consider purchasing a new unit.

Don’t wait until you and your family wake up to a freezing house on a cold winter morning. Have your furnace inspected and maintained every year.
