Frequently Asked Questions
Many consumer electronics companies offer extended warranties, commonly referred to as “service agreements.” These are essentially insurance programs designed to protect against repair costs. However, service agreements, maintenance agreements, and Energy Savings Plans in the heating and air conditioning industry are quite different.
In this industry, these agreements involve essential maintenance work that equipment manufacturers require on an annual basis to ensure that warranties remain valid. They also include critical safety checks for gas combustion heating systems, which can play a key role in preventing dangerous situations and potentially saving lives.
Service is necessary for both your furnace and air conditioner, with specific maintenance procedures tailored to each system. Since your comfort system works hard throughout the year, several components require regular adjustments, calibration, lubrication, and cleaning to maintain optimal performance. While your system may continue to operate without these services, it will not function as efficiently, potentially leading to higher energy costs. Additionally, various checks are performed to identify and resolve small issues before they escalate into larger, more costly problems. These checks also help verify that your system is operating safely, giving you peace of mind throughout the season.
Energy Savings Plans are designed to save you money by restoring your system’s efficiency, minimizing the risk of inconvenient breakdowns, and extending the lifespan of your equipment. While it’s possible to receive the same maintenance without an Energy Savings Plan, it will come at a higher cost. By enrolling in the plan, services are scheduled during slower periods, which allows you to benefit from discounted rates. Moreover, the plan provides additional savings on emergency repairs throughout the year, ensuring you receive comprehensive service at a lower overall cost.

The Facts
- Research from Empirical University and utility studies found that annual maintenance can lead to savings of $32.76 per month in operating costs. Not only does this improve efficiency, but it also restores system capacity, enhancing overall comfort.
- All manufacturers in the heating and air conditioning industry recommend annual maintenance. However, many consumers don’t realize that their warranties often require regular maintenance to stay valid, as specified in the fine print.
- Heating and air conditioning systems work hard, cycling on and off, starting and stopping 4-8 times per hour. It’s like driving your car in city traffic and shutting it off at every stop.
