Why Shouldn’t You Dump Pumpkin Pulp Down the Drain?

Autumn is in full swing, and believe it or not Halloween is right around the corner! One of the most-loved and enjoyable fall-spirited activities is carving pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns with family and friends. Unless you are in the mood for an extra visit from us, we highly recommend avoiding putting your pumpkin pulp down your garbage disposal! Here’s why.

While it is easy to think that this mushy, soft pulp is safe to send down your garbage disposal, in all reality, it’s not. The pulp will eventually dry up and harden, causing it to get stuck and clog up your garbage disposal and drain, and we all know that is no fun to deal with. As a general rule, putting any stringy fruits, vegetables or pastas down your drain is not a good idea, and pumpkin is no exception!

As you carve your pumpkins this season, do so over a garbage can or sheets of newspaper instead of your sink to save yourself from a hard time and a broken garbage disposal.

If you happen to forget or accidentally get pumpkin pulp down your drain, we would be more than happy to take care of the problem for you and get your garbage disposal working properly again!

Also, don’t forget to save your pumpkin seeds and bake them in the oven with some salt for a yummy fall treat! Happy carving and happy Halloween!
